What to see in Valderice?

A tour to discover ancient recipes and genuine flavours: from fresh fish daily caught in the waters of the gulf of Bonagia to local meats and excellent agricultural products, such as extra virgin olive oil, cheeses and wines. The majestic Molino Excelsior almost seems to protect all these excellences: it is a splendid example of industrial archaeology, which has been skilfully restored and dating back to the early 1900s; today it houses a “Centro di Cultura Eno-gastronomica (Center for Wine and Food Culture)”, with the aim of safeguarding and promoting the local and traditional cuisine.

Since 1999 in the seaside resort of Lido Valderice the concert on May 1st has been held, along the lines of the concert in Rome; local bands but also guests of national importance perform throughout the day, bringing the turnout of the public up to 15,000.

It is celebrated in the summer period, that is, original concerts held in the stately villas of which the district is rich, in these evenings jazz evenings alternate with evenings of lyric and poetry. There is also shortage of sections dedicated to children with works by puppets, storytellers and jugglers.

In August, the sausage festival takes place in Ragosia; Organized by the Ragosia 2000 association, in the square of the homonymous district, it attracts many visitors to taste the grilled sausage and attend musical performances.

Particularly popular is the Olive Festival in November held at the end of the Valdericini events. The event was born with the aim of enhancing the various qualities of olive trees and olives, the olive derivatives; Furthermore, many collection tools are welcomed, from the oldest to the most modern ones. During the exhibition it is possible to view photos and videos on the harvesting and grinding of olives, and a rich presentation of typical local products to be tasted. There will be tastings with products deriving from olives and moments of entertainment.

It has become an important event in the panorama of initiatives in the Agro Ericino and in the entire province of Trapani where allegorical floats parade and typical products can be tasted. One of the fixed events that characterize the local folklore and which sees the mass participation of people both in the creation of allegorical floats, and in the active participation in the event, which takes place in the via vespri area.
